EVALUATION OF THE ANTIOXIDANT AND HEPATOPROTECTIVE ACTIVITY OF MADHUCA LONGIFOLIA (KOENIG) LEAVES
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2013, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
The study was designed to evaluate the antioxidant and hepatoprotective activity of 70% ethanolic extract of Madhuca longilolia (Koenig) in experimental liver injury produced by carbon tetrachloride. The effects observed were compared with the standard silymarin. The Plant has reduced the elevated levels of serum biochemicals such as SGPT, SGOT, ALP, total and direct bilirubin, cholesterol and triglycerides to near normal levels in a dose dependant manner. The extract was also screened for GSH estimation and lipid peroxidation. It is evident by the results obtained that the plant posses hepatoprotective activity.
