Evaluation of the Effect of Thermo-mechanical Treatment on the Resistance of Commercial OSB to Decay Fungi
Journal Title: Materials Science-Medžiagotyra - Year 2019, Vol 25, Issue 2
Abstract
The chemical treatment of wood has been widely used in combating rot fungi. However, it’s a process that involves the insertion of chemical agents, which are subject to leaching when exposed to weathering. In this context, the thermo-mechanical modification seeks to increase the durability of wood, without polluting the environment. Samples of untreated and thermo-mechanically treated Oriented Strand Board (OSB) were exposed to the attack of rotting fungi. Both untreated and treated samples were classified as resistant to the attack of T. versicolor (white-rot). To the attack of G.trabeum (brown-rot), the untreated samples were classified as moderate resistance, and the treated samples as resistant. The results of mass loss showed that the thermo-mechanical treatment caused an increase of 19.34 % (white-rot) and 43.03 % (brown-rot) in the OSB resistance, and also improved the OSB resistance class from moderately resistant to resistant to brown-rot fungi.

Fabrication and Characterization of Graphene/Epoxy Nanocomposites
Graphene with high electric and thermal conductivities has been widely used as reinforced filler. In this study, graphene loadings in the range between 0.3 and 1.0 wt.% were added to the epoxy to fabricate the nanocompos...
Numerical Analysis of Roles of Depletion Layer Width in Semiconductor Gas Sensor Using the Gradient-Distributed Oxygen Vacancy Model
The roles of depletion layer width in semiconductor gas sensors are quantitatively discussed based on the model of gradient-distributed oxygen vacancies. Several literatures are employed to provide experimental basis of...
Microstructure and Tribological Properties of Micro-arc Oxidation TiO2 Coating Before and After SiC Particles Incorporation
In this work, porous TiO2 coating was fabricated on the surface of commercially pure titanium using the micro-arc oxidation (MAO) technique, and the effect of SiC particles incorporation on the microstructure and tribolo...
Grain Growth Model of Ultra-Fine Grain AZ80 Magnesium Alloy Multi-Directionally Forged During the Isothermal Heating Process
This paper takes the ultra-fine grain AZ80 magnesium alloy multi-directionally forged as the research object. We observe its heating behavior at 673 K with an optical microscope, analyze the grain size distribution, and...
Effect of Room Temperature Ionic Liquids for Electroless Nickel Plating on Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene Plastic
In this study, electroless nickel (EN) plating on acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) engineering plastic using room temperature ionic liquids (RTIL) was studied. Electroless plating is a fundamental step in metal plat...
