Evaluation the Effect of Education on Knowledge and Attitude of High School Students in Kermanshah City in Relation to Environment

Abstract

Environment, hygiene and human health are one of the most important issues in human society. Therefore public awareness and education about value and importance of environment is essential for human life. The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of education in changing knowledge and attitude that related to environmental issues in first grade high school students in rural areas of Kermanshah city. This study was cross-sectional and selected hundreds of students in Kermanshah randomly based on the questionnaire that given to them about environmental issues. Their knowledge and attitude was measured before and after training in oral and through leaflets (2 days after training). The results showed that there was a significant difference between the student’s average level of knowledge and attitude in relation to environmental issues before and after training (p < 0.001). So that after training the average level of their knowledge and attitude respectively increased 64.6 and 4.11. Also after training the frequency of students’ knowledge and attitude in Likert scale with high standards of education increased respectively from 50 to 94 percent and from 32 to 88 percent.Results and Discussion: Based on the results, training have an important role in increasing students’ knowledge and attitude. Therefore it is essential that the responsible organization such as health center and department of education and etc. Take necessary action in order to institutionalize environmental issues for students and train them periodically.
