Journal Title: The Journal of Happiness and Well-Being - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Adlerian theory influenced humanistic, existential, brief, solution focused, feminist and multicultural approaches. The theory has been researched and implemented in counseling and therapy, child and parent education and guidance, educational psychology, family counseling and organizational psychology. Although Adlerian theory infleunced many classic and contemprorary approaches, its influence has historically been ignored in the literature. As a holistic, strength based, humanistic approach which sees individuals as having the capacity to solve their problems, Adlerian theroy has many commonalities with positive psychology movement. The purpose of this article is to examine Adlerian theory within the context of positive psychology, provide a comprehensive review on how Adlerian theory is connected to positive psychology movement and therefore provide a guide for researchers and practitioners.
