Exendin-4 and GLP-1 decreases induced expression of ICAM-1, VCAM-1 and RAGE in human retinal pigment epithelial cells.
Journal Title: Pharmacological Reports - Year 2013, Vol 65, Issue 4
Abstract
Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) take part in the development of diabetic retinopathy. Hyperglycemia triggers an inflammatory response in the retina. These mechanisms may lead to an enhanced expression of adhesion molecules (ICAM-1 and VCAM-1) in human retinal pigment epithelium (HRPE). Glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) functions as an incretin hormone with antidiabetogenic properties. GLP-1 also possesses vasoprotective properties.

Immobility stress induces depression-like behavior in the forced swim test in mice: effect of magnesium and imipramine.
Previously, we demonstrated antidepressant-like effect of magnesium (Mg) in the forced swim test (FST). Moreover, the joint administration of Mg and imipramine (IMI) at ineffective doses per se, resulted in a potent redu...
Comparison of the analgesic efficacy of preemptive and preventive tramadol after lumpectomy.
The aim of this study was to investigate the analgesic efficacy of tramadol administrated preemptively or preventively in the earlier period of lumpectomy. Four hundred American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) physica...
Involvement of adenosine receptor agonists on the development of hypersensitivity to acute dose of morphine during morphine withdrawal period.
In the present study, the involvement of the selective adenosine A(1) (CPA) and A(2A) (CGS 21680) and non-selective adenosine A(1)/A(2A) (NECA) receptor agonists on the development of hypersensitivity to acute morphine i...
Effects of new antiepileptic drugs and progabide on the mitogen-induced proliferative activity of mouse splenocytes.
Classical antiepileptic drugs are known to affect immune system activity, although the effects of new generation anticonvulsants on T- and B-cell-mediated immunity remain unknown. Therefore, in the present study, we comp...
Flutamide treatment induces anxiolytic-like behavior in adult castrated rats.
Background: It has previously been speculated that the androgen receptor antagonist flutamide produces behavioral effects that are not mediated by androgen receptors. These earlier studies were performed in intact rodent...
