EXERCISE TOLERANCE AND DIFFERENT KINDS OF RECREATIONAL TRAINING

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2009, Vol 25, Issue 1

Abstract

Background. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of diverse systematic physical activity on physical capacity in middle age women. Material and methods. Two anthropometrically similar groups were analyzed: group I (n=12, 58 years) and group II (n=14, 45 years). Both groups underwent an 8 week aerobic recreational training, each with a different training programs:– group I underwent an ergometric training, with 40-minute sessions three times a week, with the intensity corresponding to 80% of individual ventilatory threshold; – group II performed fitness training with predominant endurance elements, twice a week, with 60 minute sessions. During the evaluation two incremental ergometric tests were carried out (before and after the training pro¬gram). The test was terminated when 80-85% of maximal heart rate was reached or at the personal request. Maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) and the level of power achieved at heart rate equal 150 beats/min (PWC150) were estimated indirectly. Before the test and three minutes after it, capillary blood was taken for the assessment of lactic acid concentration. Results. The obtained results showed the increase of aerobic capacity during the second stage of evaluation in both analyzed groups. During the training period an improvement was noted in physical tolerance, manifested by the increase in power gained at the similar heart rate levels. Conclusions. Systematic, aerobic physical activity, contributes to physical tolerance increase in middle age women, regardless what sort of activity it is.
