“EXPENSIVE CHILDREN” - LONELY CHILDREN – ANALYSIS OF TEENAGERS’ LETTERS TO TEENAGERS’ MAGAZINES

Journal Title: Educational Psychology - Year 2014, Vol 47, Issue 5

Abstract

Progeny can be treated as an investment – an expensive investment so we expect it to pay for itself in one way or another. What kind of threats does such an attitude to one’s own children pose? Loneliness and lack of support can be such a threat, especially in adolescence, which is an important and difficult developmental period. Based on this point of view, the article analyzes teenagers’ letters to popular teenagers’ magazines and psychologists’ and educators’ replies to these letters. They confirm a preliminary diagnosis, showing that in their letters, young people ask about things they should be able to ask their parents or friends.
