Experience of combined external therapy of atopic dermatitis complicated by secondary infection

Abstract

Objective — to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the combined use of external preparations containing mometasonefuroate 0.1 %, mupirocin 2 % and naftifine hydrochloride 1 % in the treatment of atopic dermatitis complicated by secondary infection. Materials and methods. Under the observation there were 16 patients with atopic dermatitis and secondary infection with bacterial and fungal flora, aged 18 to 37 years. The presence of secondary infection in the lesions was evaluated by the clinical manifestations of dermatosis, as well as by the results of microscopic and bacteriological examinations. All patients were prescribed 0.1 % mometasone furoate, 2 % mupirocin and 1 % naphthyphine hydrochloride twice a day for 14 days, as well as standard hyposensitizing therapy. Clinical efficacy was evaluated on 3rd, 7th, and 14th days of treatment. The safety of therapy was judged by the incidence of adverse side effects. Results and discussion. The study shows the high efficacy of using the proposed combination of drugs in patients with atopic dermatitis complicated by secondary infection. On the 3rd day of therapy, all patients had a decrease in erythema and edema, cessation of exudation, and a decrease in the intensity of itching. By the end of therapy (14 days), all patients achieved clinical recovery. SCORAD index value decreased to (1.8 ± 0.7) (p < 0.05) and DLQI value – to (2.1 ± 0.4) (p < 0.05) compared to baseline. Adverse reactions during treatment were not fixed. Conclusions. The proposed method of combined topical therapy of atopic dermatitis complicated by secondary infection is effective and safe, contributes to the rapid regression of the clinical manifestations of the disease, is well tolerated by patients and significantly improves the quality of life.
