Experiment and Microcosmic Mechanism Analysis of Manganese Slag Powder Modified Asphalt Performance

Journal Title: 河南科技大学学报(自然科学版) - Year 2018, Vol 39, Issue 6

Abstract

The 35 μm particle size of manganese slag powder was mixed into 70#road petroleum asphalt according to the powder oil ratio of 0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, 12% and 15% to prepare the manganese slag powder asphalt. The test of penetration, softening point and ductility were conducted to compare the effect on modified performance of asphalt of different powder oil ration. By X-ray diffraction, infrared spectroscopic analysis, scanning electron microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry, the modified performance and mechanism of manganese slag powder asphalt were explored. The test results show that the high temperature performance of asphalt mixed with the manganese slag powder is improved, while the promotion of low temperature performance is inconspicuous. The temperature sensitivity of asphalt is decreased, and the best powder oil ration is 9%.Atoms such as N, P, S in manganese slag can form weak hydrogen bonds with the atoms unshared electron pairs in asphalt, so the activation of asphalt is enhanced. The Al2 O3 of manganese slag powder adsorbs the micromolecule of aliphatic hydrocarbon and aromatic hydrocarbon in high temperature condition to perform oxidation, crosslinking and condensation reaction. When the high relative molecular mass component increases, the unreacted Al2 O3 is displaced by low relative molecular mass component and continue to play a role as catalytic oxidant. Then the content of high relative molecular mass hydrocarbons increases in asphalt component to improve the performance of asphalt.
