Experiment, Imagination, Myth

Journal Title: In Medias Res - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 11

Abstract

This paper is an attempt to connect experiment, imagination and myth, in three steps. The first step talks about the creativity, imagination of science, having in mind the crucial role of imagination when setting up scientific hypothesis. The second step analyzes the relationship between the experiment and imagination, i.e. the importance of imagination in conceiving and constructing the experiment. Natural sciences of today perform some incredibly complex experiments, however, in situations where the experiments cannot be done, the process can be created and simulated using modern mediums, such as computers. Apart from the nature of real experiments, the problem of thought experiments is looked into. The third step is concerned with the relationship of science and mythology, i.e. the idea of science as myth, including the relationship of experiment and myth.
