Experimental studies on obtaining gas hydrates from coal bed methane

Abstract

The paper considers the problems of power supply on the mining industry regions of Ukraine, which are caused by significant import dependence on natural gas, lack of effective technologies in complex development of energy resources of gas-coal deposits and deteriorated socio-economic and ecological conditions of mining regions. The perspective direction for solving the problem of rational coal bed methane use is proposed that is based on gas-hydrated technologies implementation into the technological complex of coal mines. Experimental investigations have established the dependencies of hydration accumulation change at the time of methane hydrates formation, taking into account the parameters of pressure and temperature. It was found that the fastest hydrated formation time at T = 1ºC and P = 10MPa, which is 2.5 hours. The experimental dependences of gas hydrates formation from the methane-air mixture of degassing wells are established on methane concentration, pressure and temperature parameters. It has been determined that the higher methane concentration in the mixture, the greater pressure in the system should be for the gas hydrate formation. This fact should be considered in further studies of the hydrate formation process and the development of a technological scheme for obtaining gas hydrates from the methane-air mixture from degassing wells and from the generator gas during in-situ coal gasification. A combination data implementation of production cycles of hydrate formation will allow receiving a high-quality hydrated product.
