Experimental study and CFD simulation of fluid mixing process in a horizontal stirred vessel

Abstract

The fluid mixing performance is investigated in a horizontal vessel with a single-axial lattice-blade impeller. The relation between mixing process and rotation speed are studied experimentally with depigmentation method of I2 and Na2SO3. The snapshots of dye diffusion have been recorded with digital camera. The two-step method for the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation of the mixing performance was adopted. The steady velocity field is simulated firstly, and then the diffusion of dye is simulated based on the transportation of user defined concentration scalar. The simulation data of mixing time are quite consistent with the experimental results.
