Experiments on Inclined Negatively Buoyant Jets in Shallow Streams

Journal Title: Journal of River Engineering - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 1

Abstract

Experimental runs of discharge of saltwater solution inclined at six different angles of 30°, 45°, 60°, 75°, 90° and 115° to the horizontal for three ratios of jet’s initial velocity to mean ambient fluid velocity and different densities of effluent are carried out. The geometrical length scales of the jet, including terminal rise height, horizontal distance from the source to the locus of maximum rise height and distance of the impact point from the source are measured and some empirical equations based on dimensional analysis, in terms of jet’s Froude number and ratio of jet’s to ambient flow velocities are derived.
