Extensive Type A Aortic Dissection; from Internal Carotid Artery to Iliac Artery: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Journal Title: Cardiology and Angiology: An International Journal - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 2
Abstract
Aortic dissection is defined as separation of the layers within the aortic wall. An acute aortic dissection is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates, indeed, many patients die before presentation to the emergency department (ED) or before diagnosis is made in the ED. The location, size and etiology of a dissection all impact on the clinical outcome. All arteries may be affected by the dissection, and clinical signs and symptoms such as neurologic, renal and extremity complications may vary depending on the involvement. We reported the case of a 59-year-old woman who presented with sudden-onset pain, weakness and numbness of the right leg, with no chest or back pain. A combination of features on transcervical carotid Doppler and CT angiograhy demonstrated type A aortic dissection extending to the common iliac artery and involving the supra-aortic branches, with distal extension to the carotid vessels.

Approaching Long Term Cardiac Rhythm Monitoring Using Advanced Arm Worn Sensors and ECG Recovery Techniques
According to recent British Heart Foundation statistics, one in six men and more than one in ten women die from coronary heart disease (CHD) in the UK. This equates to almost 74,000 deaths per annum from CHD alone. More...
Clinical Factors Associated with Atrial Fibrillation in Congestive Heart Failure Patients Admitted to the University Teaching Hospital, Lusaka, Zambia
Introduction: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and Congestive Heart failure (CHF) have emerged as major global epidemics. Each of these conditions predisposes to the other, and their concomitant presence has additive adverse eff...
Association of Adipose-derived Hormones with Atherosclerosis Indices in Metabolic Syndrome Patients
Aim: The study was aimed to determine the association of adipose derived hormones, adiponectin, leptin, and adiponectin/leptin (A/L) ratio with presence and degree of atherosclerosis in metabolic syndrome patients. Stud...
β-blockers in Post ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction Patient with Low Left Ventricular Systolic Function: A Retrospective Study at Shahid Gangalal National Heart Centre, Kathmandu, Nepal
Aims: Despite well developed guidelines in the management of ST elevation myocardial infarction with low left ventricular ejection fraction, β-blockers remain an underutilized therapy. We aim to assess the adherence of β...
