EXTRACTION, ELUCIDATION, CHARACTERIZATION AND EVALUATION OF ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF FOUR PURE COMPOUND FROM BARRINGTONIA RACEMOSA LEAF EXTRACT
Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 8
Abstract
Objective: This study involves the extraction, isolation and characterization of chemical constituent from Barringtonia racemosa leaf extract. Methods: the dried leaves of Barringtonia racemosa was subjected to sequential maceration in polar and non-polar solvents. And introduced into rotary evaporator to concentrate the extract. Dichloromethane and ethyl acetate of the leaves. Isolated compound was subjected to Thin Layer Chromatography and spectral analysis such as column and ultra-violent light were used in the isolation, as well as Gas Chromatography-Mass spectrophotometric (GC-MS). Characterization was done using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance and Furrier Transform-Infra Ray (FT-IR) and disc diffusion method was applied for the antibacterial test. Results: The isolated compound was from leaves ethyl acetate and dichloromethane extract and the identified compounds were confirmed as Tetracosane (1), I-Docosanol (2), Hexadecanoic acid (3) and Squalene (4). The bacterial activity was significant with increasing concentration as shown in Table 21. Conclusions: From this studies it was concluded that the isolated compounds from Barringtonia racemosa was confirmed as Tetracosane (1), 1-Docasanol (2), Hexadecanoic acid (3) and Squalene (4) and a very strong activity of the compounds was against Escherichia coli, Klebsielia pneumonia and Staphylococcus aureus was observed. This compounds were isolated and characterized for the first time from Barringtonia racemosa leaves extracts.
