Extraction of Chromate from polluted waters using powders of leaves, barks and their ashes of Vernonia cinnerea and Vincarosea apocynaceae

Abstract
Powders of leaves, barks and their ashes of Vernonia cinnerea and Vincarosea apocynaceae have been used successfully as adsorbents for extraction of Chromate from waste waters. The physicochemical conditions such as pH, time of equilibration and sorbent concentration have been optimized to evoke effective surface conditions to the maximum removal of Chromate using artificially prepared simulated waste waters. At low pH conditions, the sorbents proves to be effective. Not less than 85% removal of Chromate is observed in all the sorbents chosen for probe at proper conditions of .extraction. Common Cations and anions except Sulphate and Phosphate even in fivefold excess, have marginal effect on the % of removal. The methodologies developed are successfully applied to samples collected from industrial effluents and polluted waters.
