FACTOR STRUCTURE OF ADAPTIVE AND INNOVATIVE PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS

Journal Title: Наука і освіта - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 11

Abstract

The article deals with the analysis of the component composition and the structure of personality’s innovative capacity as a complex of psychological qualities, which is the basis for the initiation of innovative behavior and activities. Innovativeness is considered to be the core (generalized trait) of innovative capacity. This property is regarded not only in the narrow, applied aspect (as a person’s ability to perceive, evaluate and implement new ideas and technologies), but also in a broader sense (as the ability of an individual to take the novelty, complexity and variability of the world, creating new strategies of behavior). These forms of activity have a super-adaptive nature and are implemented through a number of mechanisms including adaptive self-regulation, which defines the place of adaptability in the structure of innovative capacity. Adaptability is considered as a property of an individual, the ability to reforms, which are aimed at preserving balanced relations of an individual with micro and macro environment, as the ability to reproduce these relations under the conditions of any changes in the social environment. The following indicators of innovative potential have also been studied: innovative thinking, creativity, willingness to changes, to the justified risk, orientation at the future and certain quality of life. As a result of factorization of features of personality’s adaptive and innovative characteristics a five-factor model has been developed. It generally presents the individual symptoms of interrelated features: “originality – intuition”, “total adaptability”, “tolerance to ambiguity”, “passion – sense of humor”, ”self-emotion, empathy”. The analysis of every factor’s content indicates such primary components of the innovative capacity as creativity, adaptability, focus on novelty, energy, self-efficiency. A number of psychological traits which represent individual aspects of creativity that prevent the manifestation of innovation have been distinguished: intuition, sense of humor, emotion, empathy and creative approach to the occupation. The ratio of innovation and adaptability is clear and linear, which confirms the inclusion of the adaptability in the phenomenological characteristics of person’s innovative capacity as an important independent component. As a result of the empirical study it has been revealed that characteristics of adaptability and properties belonging to the innovative potential form a holistic space with a certain internal organization.
