Factors conditioning location of foreign direct investments in the European Union - comparable work – years: 2005 and 2011

Abstract
The European Union is both, a main beneficiary and a main investor investing the foreign capital around the world. Every year entrepreneurs from around the world invest in the Member States approx. 35% of the global stream of investments. The goal of this paper is presentation of motives of entrepreneurs who carry out foreign investments directly in the area of the European Union. In the first part of the paper the Author reviews Polish and world sources focused on theories on locations selected by entrepreneurs on the basis of motives and factors, which determine the process of selection of locations. In the second part of the paper a phenomenon of inflow of the FDI into the Members States in 2005 and 2011 was presented as well as leaders among beneficiaries of this form of the capital. The third part is a list of results of surveys conducted by the Author in 2006 and 2012. The aim of the survey was determination of factors, which were taken into accounts by the entrepreneurs when making decision on expansion into the Union's markets. On the basis of the surveys some conclusions occurred. The author managed to specify more and less substantial motives and their variability in the period of recent five years.
