Factors that influence the nutritional status of children aged 1-5 in Ecuador

Abstract

Introduction: Joint efforts have been made to search for strategies on nutrition in Ecuador, which allow the analysis of the information collected in censuses and surveys, in order to establish the indicator factors of risks in the state nutrition of children aged 1-5 years; that influence the development of the individual and his ability to interact with society. Objective: Project through the collection and review of information concerning the Factors influencing the nutritional status of children aged 1-5 years in Ecuador. Materials and Methods: The methodological approach of this research is qualitative, supported by descriptive documentary research. Results: Child malnutrition is a social problem that limits the capabilities and functioning of people, so their eradication must be a social and political commitment at the global level, 52 million children under 5 years old present emaciation as weight loss and condition bodily; 17 million were severely wasted and 155 million were delayed in increase. On the contrary, 41 million are overweight or obese according to the data reflected by the World Health Organization. Conclusions: The Child malnutrition currently affects a quarter of the population in Ecuador less than five years old, that is, around 415,000 infants. With these results Ecuador has more than twice the average of the Latin American region and the Caribbean, in relation to child chronic malnutrition and is above the average in overweight, which affects about 150,000 infants
