ФАКТОРНЫЙ АНАЛИЗ В ИССЛЕДОВАНИИ КОНЦЕПТОВ ИНСТИТУЦИОНАЛЬНОГО ДИСКУРСА

Abstract
В данной статье представлен алгоритм проведения факторного анализа в исследовании вербальной репрезентации социального концепта «современная женщина» в институциональном дискурсе 20-х годов пришлого века. С помощью факторного анализа выявляются латентные процессы, определяющие характер исследуемого концепта. The article depicts the algorithm of a factor analysis applied for the study of evaluative component of the social concept «a Modern Woman». The concept, being a new phenomenon for the American society of the 1920s, evoked a great interest therefore was discussed publicly. The newspaper articles focusing on different aspects of ethic and behavior of young women represent institutional discourse of the 1920s. The specificity of this research is the application of semantic differential method for analysis without preceding controlled association experiment: though it cannot ensure all possible psychometric dimensions, the result is independent from research’s set, consequently can be considered unbiased. Starting with the content analysis of 109 «New York Times» articles, that has resulted in a representative sample of 201 reactions on the stimulus – concept «a Modern Woman», research proceeds with semantic differential method.The reactions (i.e. evaluative adjectives and nouns attributed by the authors of the newspaper articles to the young women of 1920s) are assembled on 5 bipolar scales that correspond opposing estimations of the concept under study. The scales representing linear combinations of major factors characterize semantic domains reflecting social reality by particular culture. The detected factors are commensurate with of assessment of behavioral, exterior, mental and ethical characteristics of American young women. The arithmetic handling of quantitative representation of factors shows that the American society of 1920s has attributed to the young modern women such qualities as keen intelligence, strength of will, allurement and at the same time immoral, therefore justlycondemned. Psychometric data handling has given the rank scale in the order of increasing. Subsequent statistic processing of factor numeral expression shows that the variation range of the rank scale does not impede to determine Spearman index of cograduation. The received value testifies to a high degree correlation between negative and positive assessments shown in the discourse. Thus opposing assessments balance emotionally perceived assets of the concept. As shown by this research, the factor analysis provides insight into latent properties of social concepts and assures unbiased representation of evaluative component of the concept under study. Factor analysis is empirical affirmation of researcher’s inference about the status and importance of a definite concept in the conceptual system of a nation.
