Abstract
This article is devoted to the analysis of the elements of fantasy in the novel «Tilo TM» of the modern Ukrainian writer V. Granetskaya. The novel is analyzed in line of postmodernism, where fantasy is one of the leading genres. The following fantasy features are explored: miracle, fate, the dichotomy of Good and Evil, intertextual connections at the level of quotations, allusions, reminiscences with mythology and folklore. The main functions of these characters are determined in the novel. The postmodern novel by V. Granetskaya «Tilo TM», that was released in 2013, includes elements of fantasy. The action takes place in modern times, but this modernity is modeled by the author, it is unreal, mythologized, fantastic. To convince the reader of the authenticity of the described events, the author introduces the elements of national mythology, the chronotype of the road that unite the past and the future, creating a unique chronotype of the novel. Fantasy, being rather young and modern, is closely connected with much more ancient layers of culture — the mythology, that is the basis for fantasy literature. The fantasy genre is also associated with a fairy tale that provides intertextual connections, defines the plot and the figurative side of the novel. The defining features of modern Ukrainian fantasy are a combination of real and fantastic worlds that create the Secondary World, the para-reality where the miracle is a leading one. The miracle creates a personal chronotype for the characters of the novel, in which they confront the evil, the narrator as if «imposes» his narrative on the so-called «reality», models his own chronotype with the help of the folklore chronotype, where the characters of the novel act.
