FEATURES OF COPING STRATEGIES OF MARITAL PARTNERS AT DIFFERENT STAGES OF THE FAMILY’S LIFE CYCLE AND THEIR IMPACT ON FAMILY WELL-BEING

Abstract

In the article, theoretical analyses of coping concept іs developed and peculiar properties of different coping strategies for marriage life cycle were studied. Experimental study of particular features of different marriage experience partners’ coping strategies results were represented. Determined that the dominant copying strategy for all marriage life cycle stages is a strategy of problem’s solving planning; for the first and third marriage life cycle stage – strategy of “positive rereappraisal”; for the second – “looking for social support”; for the fourth – “self-control” and “distancing”. It might be concluded that the wider the range of coping strategies used by an individual, the higher his/her welfare is. The article examines the family coping not only as a way of overcoming the crisis in the family, but also as an important resource by which the family remains viable and healthy, characterized by the best psychological and physical well-being of spouses, high life satisfaction, better social adaptation and stability of family relationships. Observations of family coping show that the family relationships are not alone actions, they include both the organization of the different actions of family members, involve many areas of family life, strengthen family unity and cohesion. The paper maintains that a family responds to external and internal stress challenges as a single organism, and the elements of a family system give rise to coping. Interconnection between intra-marriage communication and collaboration copying strategies and the level of marriage satisfaction was determined. It has been summarised that joint family coping is a significant feature of family life, whereas a family’s ability to adequately and constructively overcome difficult situations is a factor in a family’s well-being and vitality.
