FEATURES OF EUPHEMISMS- AND SLENG- FUNCTIONING IN MODERN ENGLISH DISCOURSE

Abstract
The article defines the features of the use of euphemisms and slangisms as manifestation of stylistically colored non-literary vocabulary in modern English-speaking discourse. Overall, the functioning of euphemisms in the political sphere and slangisms in cinematographic art is investigated, and a general description of the modern linguistic phenomena of slang and euphemization is provided. The authors analyze the official speeches of modern US politicians for euphemisms, as well as the dialogues of the main characters of the popular entertainment youth American series “How I met your mother” on the content of various slang expressions. The result of the study determined the main functions of euphemisms in political discourse and slang speech in film discourse and specified the motives for their use.
