FEATURES OF THE COMPETITIVE MARKET STRUCTURE OF FAT AND OIL INDUSTRY

Abstract

The article describes and analyzes the current state of the oil and fat industry in Ukraine, highlights the peculiarities of this market in terms of its competitive structure. Problems of the enterprises activity development in this field that arise due to the changes in the world market and the associated risks are discovered. Identification of risks makes it possible to ascertain the need to modify the strategies of the firms in this market. Competition in the global markets of vegetable oil has escalated in recent years. Fundamental changes are associated with the decline in prices of vegetable oil, global economic and political instability, strengthening of the dollar. It creates new factors of influence on prices, which have been on a downward trend in the last three years. However, there is a growth in production volumes of sunflower oil in Ukraine, and the capacities of processing enterprises are much larger than the size of their own resource base. The shortage of raw materials allows farmers to keep prices for sunflower at a high level. In the long term while maintaining these trends, it is possible to reduce the margin of processing plants, closing some of them and overflowing of capital to other business areas. The presence of large vertically integrated structures, which is largely represented by foreign capital, puts at threat the smaller players of the market and requires seeking new forms of strategic behavior today.
