Journal Title: BEÜ İlahiyat Fakültesi Dergisi - Year 2018, Vol 5, Issue 1

Abstract

This work focuses on the parallelism between the ideas of Jean Baudrillard and Theodor W. Adorno who is known as a follower of the Critical Theory or Frankfurt School. Theodor Adorno and Jean Baudrillard are two important thinkers that propounded considerable ideas in the recent periods. It can be said that these ideas are in parallel with each other. Cultural industry, social philosophy, criticism and media are at the forefront of these parallels. Adorno developed his thoughts in Germany, England and the United States, while Baudrillard developed his ideas in the context of the French school of thought. Despite not meeting each other, it is remarkable that the two philosophers have so close thoughts to each other. It can be said that the ideas of two thinkers complete each other. In this respect, liaison between Baudrillard who speaks from the inside of postmodernism and theories of Critical Theory, which is considered as one of the pioneers of postmodernism, is very important. The two thinkers share the same conviction that the West imposes itself on the World and through Enlightenment poeple can not achieve the goals they are aiming for. Moreover, both Adorno and Baudrillard have explanations about masses. According to them rather than saying that society has a culture, it is more appropriate to say that culture is industrialized.
