Abstract
It is important to teach the forms of Turkish religious music and hand them down from generation to generation. Developing religious sentiment and thoughts among individuals is necessary in order for the phenomenon of religion to continue its function as a reinforcer of social unity solidarity. Many forms of Turkish religious music are sunk into oblivion today. The number of composers in this field has decreased. Therefore, it is necessary to study and find out the composers and their musical works as the conveyer of Turkish traditional musical culture. The waning social function of Turkish religious music has led us to this research based on the document analysis methods. Musical notes of the work were notated with the computerised notation programme (Musokur). The population of the research includes thirty three works composed by the poet and composer Davut Şahan of Gaziantep. The sample of the research is five out of thirty three hymns composed in five different modes. The study is based on the document analysis method.
