Female presence on boards of Polish listed companies: from the perspective of institutional and resource dependency theories

Abstract

The discussion on the low representation of women on boards of Polish listed companies has just started. The first empirical research shows that women are often treated as a token. This is also mentioned in this paper. However, the author adopted institutional and resource dependency theories in order to identify the determinants of the presence of female directors on supervisory and management boards and conducted a panel data analysis, which confirmed the significant impact of sector, ownership structure and board size on the appointment of female directors.
