FEMINIST READINGS OF THE NOVELS “WOMAN HAS NO NAME” AND “A WOMAN TO BE HANGED”

Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2014, Vol 7, Issue 32

Abstract

In this study, women’s problems in Pınar Kür’s “A Woman to be Hanged” and Duygu Asena’s “Women Has No Name” will be discussed. It will also be discussed how two protagonists, a supressed and sexually abused woman and a rebellious woman towards male dominance are evaluated by two female authors from a feminist perspective. Based on two contemporaneous, yet completely dissimilar characters Melek [literally ‘Angel’] and the ‘unnamed woman’, this study will scrutinize the dynamics of a social shift (particularly for Turkish women) which goes from a state of acceptance and obedience to a state of freedom. Adressing feminist writers, legists, politicians and theorists, this study will underlie the struggle of (Turkish) women to the end of individual freedoms.
