Ferromagnetic Ni-doped ZnO nanoparticles synthesized by a chemical precursor method
Journal Title: Carbon - Science and Technology - Year 2013, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
A simple chemical synthesis method of pristine ZnO and Ni-doped ZnO (NixZn1-xO; x = 0.01-0.05) nanoparticles is reported. Structural and morphological properties of the synthesized nanoparticles have been studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Average crystallite size calculated from XRD peak widths using Debye Scherrer’s formula comes out to be 12 nm, 8 nm and 10 nm in pristine ZnO, Ni0.01Zn0.99O, and Ni0.05Zn0.95O samples, respectively. HRTEM images clearly show high crystalline order in the derived nanoparticles with particle size of 15- 18 nm, which are in good agreement with the XRD results. Magnetic measurements reveal that the incorporation of Ni2+ cations into the ZnO lattice results in induced room-temperature ferromagnetism in the otherwise non-magnetic ZnO.

Mechanical Preparation, characterization and photocatalytic activity of Fe2O3/ZnO and Fe3O4/ZnO
Composite Iron oxide-Zinc oxide (α-Fe2O3/ZnO and Fe3O4/ZnO) was synthesized by two step method. In the first step, uniform α-Fe2O3 and Fe3O4 particles were prepared through a hydrolysis process of ferric chloride at 80 °...
Process parameters optimization for synthesis of methyl ester from sunflower oil using Taguchi technique
In this work, transesterification of sunflower oil for obtaining biodiesel was studied. Taguchi’s methodology (L9 orthogonal array) was selected to optimize the most significant variables (methanol, catalyst concentratio...
Is vacuum annealing converts p-type single wall carbon nanotube field effect transistor (in air) to n-type (in vacuum) is universially true (?)
Our study on nickel silicide and gold contacted single-wall-carbon-nanotube field effect transistors (SWCN-FETs) is in sharp contrast to earlier published reports of type conversion in SWCN-FETs (from p- to n-) when cycl...
