ffects of Aqueous Stem Bark Extract of Cissus Populnea on Serum Lipid Profile in Norm al and Diabetic Induced Rats

Journal Title: International Journal of Scientific Research and Management - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 11

Abstract

The study form four weeks experimental protocol involving intragastric administration of 100mg/Kg body weight of aqueous stem bark extract of Cissus populnea in normal and alloxan induced diabetic albino rats. In the diabetes induced group there is a significant increase (P<0.05) in the serum level of cholesterol (2.80 + 0.46mmol/L 1.83 + from 0.08mmol/L). The result also revealed a significant increase in the serum level of HDL cholesterol (1.51 + 0.08 mmol/ L from 1.08 + 0.05mmol/L). and of triglyceride (1.52 + 0.10mmol/L from 0.78 + 0.01mmol/L). However, no significant differences was observed in the serum level LDL cholesterol (1.30 + 0.01mmol/L and 1.30 + 0.12mmol/L). In the diabetic group administered with the extract there was a decrease in the level of cholesterol (1.83 + 0.08mmol/L to 1.06 + 0.15mmol/L). All other three lipid parameters increased signicantly (P<0.05)
