FMCG Companies spectacular bankruptcy in Poland in 2012, based on capital group of BOMI trade mark

Abstract
This article describes a case study of one of the most spectacular business failures in Poland in 2012 in FMCG branch - companies operating under the well-known brand on the market – “BOMI”. Despite the increase in the competitive advantage of the industry players who gain synergies through the consolidation process, the second half of 2012 resulted in the bankruptcy of companies with capital: BOMI S.A., Grupa Kapitałowa BOMI Centrala Sp. z o.o. and Rabat Service. The authors conducted economic and financial analysis of these entities, and used the models of business failure prediction (based on the assumptions of discriminant analysis) to see if earlier detection of impending crisis, based on the analysis of their financial statements was possible. Quantitative analysis was also enriched with commentary and analysis of secondary materials in the form of: analysis of the notes content published with the financial statements of the entities, analysis of media reports and statements provided by management and trade union representatives.
