FOLK TERMINOLOGY OF GEOGRAPHICAL NAMES OF THE RIVNE REGION FOR DENOTING THE NEUTRAL RELIEF

Abstract

The article deals with the research of semantic peculiarities of folk geographical terminology of the Rivne Regionused todenote the neutral relief. Implementation of this purpose is sustained by the solution of the following tasks: identification of the structure of the local vocabulary and clearingits meanings; structural-semantic classification of the collected data; revealing parallels of folk geographical terms and their comparison to literary as well as dialect and Slavic coherent terms. Theobject of the research isthe folk terms denoting geographical realities of the neutral relief of the region. The subject of the research is their composition, semantic structure and the territory of distribution. The certified lexemes are described in accordance with the general properties, size, relative height and presence of vegetation. The data is analyzed in such lexicalsemantic groups: plain in general; wide plain, flat terrain; lowland plain; highland plain; meadow plain. The majority of names have Proto-Slavic origin. Detailed study of the structure, semantic and derivational features of the local terminology for denotingthe neutral relief as an integral language system and motivational base of proper names is the subject of further research.
