FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION IN CANADA: SPECIFICITY AND MECHANISMS OF REGULATION

Abstract
The paper highlights the major mechanisms of regulation in the field of foreign language education in Canada, outlines the strategies and priorities of the national policy for the development of foreign language education. Considerable attention is paid to the Canadian model of providing distance education, identifying the role of online programs and courses as a way of optimization of the system of higher foreign language education in Canada. Also defined are the directions of modernization of foreign language education concerning availability and quality, institutional boundaries, new sources of funding, implementation of the principle «lifelong education», internationalization of programs for the development of intercultural competence and realization of students academic mobility programmes. The author comes to the conclusion that thorough examination of the Canadian model of regulation in the field of foreign language education will contribute to the search of ways to ensure the development and high quality of education and science in Ukraine.
