Forms of monitoring of the plant cover in the “land of valleys” of the Bieszczady National Park

Journal Title: Roczniki Bieszczadzkie - Year 2010, Vol 18, Issue 1

Abstract

The paper presents different types of monitoring conducted in the valleys of the Bieszczady National Park. thee object of monitoring was to determine the following problems: 1) influence of mowing and grazing on biodiversity, 2) reaction of phytocoenotic structures to mowing, 3) rate and direction of succession in the plots excluded from any management, 4) influence of small arti%cial water bodies on the surrounding vegetation, 5) dynamics of small, unstable populations of rare vascular plants, 6) behavior of population of invasive synanthropic plant species. Examples of monitoring types show the general picture of research activity within the ecosystems subjected to active protection, but also give some practical bene%ts e.g. what should be optimal form and frequency of protection measures for most e#ective development of vegetation in the “land of valleys”.
