Friction coefficient, texture depth and tyre/road noise evaluation method by analysis of tyre print image
Journal Title: Roads and Bridges - Drogi i Mosty - Year 2015, Vol 14, Issue 2
Abstract
The development of road network requires intensive research in the field of road maintenance. It is essential to develop efficient and effective assessment methods of road pavement condition. Monitoring the level of the traffic safety-related characteristics (friction coefficient and texture depth) is particularly important for road users, while keeping road noise as low as possible is important because of the urban population living near them. The article presents the results of research work, the aim of which was to establish whether it is possible to determine skid resistance properties, pavement/tyre noise and texture depth by tyre prints on the basis of the analysis of tyre/pavement contact point. The paper presents an original method of the image analysis of tyre/pavement contact point. The correlation of this method with standard test methods, such as laser profilometer texture depth MPD, SRT-3 skid resistance tester and CPX road noise was investigated. As a result of this study it has been demonstrated that there is a significant correlation between the introduced method and MPD and SRT-3 methods for all tested pavement types as well as with CPX method for non-porous pavements.

Admixtures effectiveness in mortars in the presence of calcareous fly ash
This paper presents a study on the influence of various admixtures (SP, PL, AE, R, ACC) on rheological properties, air content, setting time and heat of hydration of mortars with the addition of calcareous fly ash. Rheol...
Testing of a large-span soil-shell structure without stiffeners during backfilling process
The paper presents the results of field tests carried out on a prototype structure in the form of a low-profile steel arch made from corrugated plates, covered with soil, which was intended as a wildlife overpass. The co...
Influence of loading time on subgrade parameters derived from VSS static plate test
Achieving the required bearing capacity of a road subgrade during VSS static plate measurements is very often problematic in the contemporary road engineering execution. The problems arise during the test due to passing...
Verification of the hemispherical finite element model of elastic space
The present paper outlines the verification process of the finite element model of elastic space. The axially-symmetrical model in the shape of a hemisphere made of linear-elastic material of one sort, i.e. homogeneous a...
