From the chief editor's desks. Prevention of genetics and breeding research in Ukraine (to 100 years from the time of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine)

Abstract
The main events underlying the launch of the scientific basis for breeding, as well as genetic and genetic selection studies in Ukraine at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries are presented. The major trends and principal achievements of these sciences in the system of institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine from the time of its foundation (November, 1918) and the prohibition of genetic research and teaching of classical genetics in the former USSR in August 1948 were considered. The scientific and scientifically-organizational activities of leading geneticists and breeders of Ukraine and their contribution to the world science advancements were analyzed.Keywords: history of science, genetics and breeding in Ukraine, history of the NAS of Ukraine.
