FROM THE HISTORY OF THE KAMIANKA CENTRE OF NARODNYI RUH OF UKRAINE: BEATING OF HALYCHYNA YOUTH, 1990

Abstract
During the period of public-political and outlook changing of soviet order in «rebuilding» times, many contradicto-ry episodes have happened. Built on terror and repressions, communist totalitarian system perceived elements of plu-ralism and democracy, introduced by Horbachov’s reforms, in aggressive way. That was a reason of different types of conflicts and oppositions. The bright example – beating of visiting students from Western Ukraine in Kamianka (Cher-kasy oblast) in August 19, 1990. On the background of complicated external and exacerbated internal situation in Ukraine, usage of previous periods experience becomes topical. Consideration of past mistakes in conditions of 80-90th years of 20th century can be a key to correction of the dialogue between people and the government for the purpose of the common goal – building of strong, wealthy and developed Ukraine. Purpose of the work – depiction of the reasons, conditions and public resonance of beating Ivano-Frankivsk stu-dents in Kamianka, August 19, 1990. During the research preparation, reminiscences of witnesses and different publications were used, process of the conception chronology was systematized,occasions of the worked theme were illustrated in details. The article shows reasons, preconditions, motion and results of beating Ivano-Frankivsk students by local com-munist power in Kamianka, August 19, 1990. Activities of the Kamiankacentreof NarodnyiRuh of Ukraine are pictured shortly, given the information about participation of Kamianka’sRuh members in celebration of 500thanniversary of Cossacks on Zaporizhia, their acquaintanceship with Halychyna youth. Circumstances of the beating of the Ivano-Frankivsk students in Kamianka are depicted in details, illustrated public resonance of the occasion, crime investiga-tion and general results. Mentioned resonant occasion was obviously colored politically. Kamianka’s top communist power, cherished by to-talitarian soviet system, was «defending» its communist ideology and saw danger from Halychyna youth to its «prole-tarian» values. In particular regions breaking of public-political traditions occurred quickly and in painless way on the base of «rebuilding» strategy, but in others it faced considerable resistance of party nomenklatura. The last factor also appeared in Kamianka and was confirmed by sadly known beating of students, August 19, 1990.
