Functional outcome following open reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligament using bone patellar tendon bone graft and interference screws
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
Background: Various surgical methods have been described for the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL)tear with its own merits and demerits. Though arthroscopic reconstruction is the commonly done surgery, open reconstruction is still a good alternative in hospitals where scopy instruments/facilities are not available. This studies aim was to analyse the functional outcome following open ACL reconstruction using Bone- patellar tendon -bone graft (BPTB) Materials and methods: This is a prospective study of 30 patients aged between 18 to 50years with complete ACL tear with or without meniscal injury. Patients were treated by open reconstruction using bone- patellar tendon- bone graft and interference screws. Appropriate post-operative care was given. ACL rehabilitation protocol was followed for all patients. The functional evaluation of the patients was done at 1year follow up. We used IKDC-2000, Lysholm & Gillquist scoring system for the evaluation of the results. Results: 90% of patients had normal or near normal knee, 10% of the patients had abnormal knee as per IKDC 2000 scoring system. excellent-good results were seen in 83% of the cases, while 14% had intermediate grade. The complications observed were anterior knee pain (26%), mildnumbness over donor site (13%), patella fracture (n=1). Conclusion: Open ACL reconstruction is still a good alternative to arthroscopic reconstruction in hospitals where scopy instruments/facilities are not available.

A case of combined posterolateral corner (PLC) injury and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury treated by arthroscopic reconstruction
The combined injuries involving anterior cruciate ligament and posterolateral corner are the rarest among knee injuries with an incidence of about 9.1% and there is a paucity of literature focussing on its management. He...
A prospective randomised controlled study in patients undergoing patelloplasty in total knee replacement with coagulation diathermy and without coagulation diathermy
Anterior knee pain in the patella femoral area after TKA has been addressed in a growing number of studies. Picetti et al. reported that anterior knee pain was present in 29% of the knees after TKA without patellar resur...
Comparative study of unstable intertrochanteric fracture treatment by trochanteric femoral nail versus hip hemiarthroplasty
The management of unstable intertrochanteric fractures in elderly is challenging because of difficult anatomical reduction, poor bone quality, and sometimes a need to protect the fracture from stresses of weight bearing...
To compare and analyze the functional outcome seen after hemiarthroplasty with uncemented Austin Moore’s prosthesis and non-cemented non-modular bipolar prosthesis in all displaced intracapsular femur neck fractures in elderly patients using the Harris Hip score in rural population
Introduction: Fractures Neck of the femur is one of most common fractures seen by an orthopedician. The incidence of these fractures and the various problems arising from them are growing, the reason for this is mainly t...
A comparative effectiveness of activated platelet-rich plasma versus autologous whole blood in the management of lateral epicondylitis: A randomized clinical trial of functional outcome
Background: Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), a familiar term used to describe myriad of symptoms around the lateral aspect of elbow mainly due to intra-tendinous degeneration assosciated with ageing, repetitive move...
