Functions of English scientific and fantastic cosmopoetonims

Abstract
In this article the functions of English cosmopoetonyms are analyzed. The purpose of this article is to establish and analyse the functions of cosmopoetonyms in English science fiction prose. As the object of the study English cosmopoetonyms were chosen, that is the names of natural cosmic space objects, which were accepted in English science fiction, as the subject — their functional peculiarities. As the research material English science-fiction cosmopoetonyms were chosen (total amount — 385 units). Results: English cosmopoetonyms perform different functions in artistic speech, as well as in English science fiction text. Due to the basic ability — to identify single objects — proper names perform differential function, that is also called nominative, the function of individualization and identification. It is the speech function and it is obligatory, therefore is common to all proper names. Cosmopoetonyms perform informative function in science fiction texts transmitting information about artistic denotate and it’s name, attention, however, is paid to that fact, that this function is performed together with permanent working in the background passive functions of cognition of a certain world fragment and knowledge accumulation. Characterising function particularly the case for proper names of characters — anthroponyms, however, this function is in contact with cosmopoetonyms characterising described alien world, its features and inhabitants. Cosmopoetonyms perform expressive function, the function of transposition of denotative and connotative elements of significance revealing axiologocal potential of cosmopoetonym. Text making function is peculiar for cosmopoetonyms as the text convener. Alienative function is one of the prominent for cosmopoetonyms of science fiction, whereby the level of its mainstreaming depends on the exoticism of cosmopoetonym.
