FUNERARY SITES OF LATE STAGE OF CORDED WARE CULTURE ON THE TERRITORY OF UKRAINIAN SUB-CARPATHIAN REGION

Abstract
Funerary sites from the late stage of the Corded Ware culture on the territory of Ukrainian Sub-Carpathians are examined at the article. The features of funeral ceremonies of that period are analyzed. Source base consists of about thirty barrows and three ground burials. Barrows are located generally along the tops of watershed hills. Barrow mounds are small in size (12 to 18 m in diameter and 0,4 to 1,4 meters in high), although there are much larger (Krylos, barrow “Nastasyna mogyla”) appeared. Most of the skeletons of the dead are not preserved. Several burials (Rokytno, barrow 3; Krylos, barrow 6), in which the graves with skeletons, crouched to the left or right side were found, can be considered as exception. The fact of construction of wooden structures, so-called “Houses of the dead” (Bykiv) is witnessed in four burials. In one ground burial remains of skeletons were found (Side). In two others crouched skeletons without construction of burial pit were found. It is noted that the development of material culture on the later stage took on new, not typical for the sites of Verhnodnistrovska group of Sub-Carpathian Corded Ware culture features that reflect transformation of the group. It is also noted that consistency of pottery is changing, the main admixture of which consisted of fireclay. Ceramic ware is presented by amphorae, bowls, pots and cups. It is emphasized that characteristic feature of the amphorae of late model are four eyelets placed under the neck of product which are less in number than pots. Among the ceramic ware new form appeared – ladle. Flint artifacts are represented by axes (rectangular and lenticular in cross-section), knives, burins, end-scrapers and arrowheads, amount of which is growing rapidly. Stone products – mainly by drilled battle axes. Presence of metal products was noted in two barrows. Burial sites of the late stage are dated back to the period 2400/2300–2200 ВС.
