Galata Which Reflects The Ways Of Classical Turkısh Literature

Abstract

İstanbul is a city which has been remembered and called “City of Sultans”, “Queen of Cities” and “Pearl of the East” for ages and has opened and closed ages with its conquest. This city which can also be defined as cradle of civilizations has been the capital city of a long life empire and it has taken a determining role in the cultures of geographies depended on itself . Galata representing the bygone centuries of İstanbul with the strongest lines is of importance with its physical charm symbolizing a cultural reality and with its being an historical document. Even though Galata has been a city quarter remained outside Istanbul Bulwarks, as a district which has come into conflict with the counter shore in many respect and has witnessed to the confidential relations in Ottoman Society, it has supported the economical side of the daily life, has left its mark on the daily life of Istanbul in terms of culture due to being that it attracted the intelligentsia inwardly, and it has become the window of the city opened to Europe. In this study, commencing from obligation to discover this district where many practices of “enjoying life” are experienced, the sides of Galata as reflected to the Classical Turkish Poem shall be addressedand it will be tried to obtain some cues about the social life of that period in the light of sample verses.
