GDF11 alleviates the formation of aortic aneurysm by reducing inflammatory responses

Abstract
Objective To investigate the protective effect of GDF11 on the formation of aortic aneurysm and its effect on inflammatory responses. Methods Sixty 3-week-old male C57BL / 6 mice (10 13 g) were randomly divided into three groups: normal control group (n = 20), aneurysm group (n =20) and aneurysm and GDF11 co-treatment group (n =20). A mouse aneurysm model was constructed with β-aminopropionitrile (BAPN) drinking water, at a dose of 1 g· kg - 1· d - 1. The diameter of aortic vessels, GDF11 and MMP9 protein expression and experession levels of inflammatory factors were detected after 4 weeks. Results After feeding with BAPN, the diameter of aortic vessels enlarged, GDF11 protein expression decreased, while MMP9 protein expression and expression levels of inflammatory factors increased. GDF11 could significantly alleviate the enlargement of aortic diameter, and down-regulate MMP9 protein expression and expression levels of inflammatory factors ( P < 0. 01). Conclusion GDF11 co-treatment can significantly alleviate aortic vasodilation and reduce aortic vascular inflammation.
