Journal Title: Psychiatry, Neurology and Medical Psychology - Year 2014, Vol 1, Issue 1
Abstract
A review of foreign sources on clinical studies of sense of humor and comic elements has been carried out. It was found that the results of the empirical research of the comical are confl icting data on how positive the eff ect of humor on mental health and psychological well-being is. The article gives the results of the analysis of publications on gelotophobia – a pathological fear of becoming the object of derision. It is noted that the study of gelotophobia is becoming more widespread and is of great scientifi c and practical interest in the context of study of individual diff erences and psychopathology, which is associated with high prevalence and universality of gelotophobia as a psychosocial phenomenon, as well as with the fact that excessive social anxiety is considered as a component of anti-vital behavior.
