GENDER CODE IN PROSE WOR KS by LESYA UKRAINKA

Abstract

The given article is devoted to the comprehension of through gender code in prose works by Lesya Ukrainka, directed on destruction of patriarchal canons of realistic writing methods. In the article prose works by Lesya Ukrainka are probed from gender analysis point of view, there is analyzed attitude of the authoress, who in the short stories demonstrates her own general concept of a woman and her place in the society. The problematic of feministic discourse in Ukrainian literary criticism of the XXth — the beginning of the XXIst century is accentuated. Lesya Ukrainka in her short stories outlines gender problems. There is a supposition that intellectual heroines in drama works were ignored by the criticism, and the heroines of prose works by the authoress generally have not been taken seriously by literary critics. The article is called forth by coming to a head necessity to revise the perception of prose works by Lesya Ukrainka from the point of view of literary criticism gender discourse. It is investigated, that in the context of Ukrainian literature and in particular womanish writing in the brink of ages ’feministic’ became a synonym to ’modern’. Women-authoresses of this critical time did not just have cast aside and destroyed patriarchal images of impersonal women, which prevailed in the national culture of XIX century, but also have ruined the myth about womanish passivity, weakness, and eternal masculine activity.
