Genomic/ Personalized Medicine: A Strategy To Revolutionize HealthCare System

Abstract

Medicine is now undergoing a major revolution that will transform the nature of healthcare from reactive to preventive. The changes will be catalyzed by a new systems approach to disease that will trigger the emergence of personalized medicine. Personalized medicine is a medical model that proposes the customization of health care with medical decisions, practices and products being tailored to the individual patient. Advances in medical genetics and human genetics have enabled a more detailed understanding of the impact of genetics in disease. Personalized medicine research attempts to identify individual solutions based on the susceptibility profile of each individual. Recent advancements in the genetic etiologies of common diseases will surely improve pharmaceutical development. In the future, tissue-derived molecular information might be combined with an individual's personal medical history and data from imaging, and other laboratory tests to develop more effective treatments for a wider variety of conditions.
