Global Planning for Local Health: A Public Health Perspective of NRHM

Journal Title: Journal of Integrated Community Health - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 3

Abstract

The National Rural Health Mission (hereafter NRHM), envisaged as an umbrella programme for improving health condition of the rural poor in India, is about to wind up and the preparation for replacing it with another umbrella programme called National Health Mission is already underway. The present study intends to provide an interpretative analysis from a critical public health perspective. This study argues that the whole programme is oriented to ultimately end up with opening up Indian rural health space to the global market players and in turn expose that space to their business interests.
