GPS L1 Signal Simulation and Interface Design
Journal Title: Gazi Üniversitesi Fen Bilimleri Dergisi Part C: Tasarım ve Teknoloji - Year 2019, Vol 7, Issue 2
Abstract
The use of satellite-based positioning systems such as Global Positioning System (GPS) has become increasingly popular and these systems are becoming more and more common in all transportation modes, especially in air transportation. The aim of this study is to simulate GPS L1 civil signal and to design the user interface in order to explore working principle of the system and to analyse the effects of receiver clock error, Doppler frequency shift and medium noise on the accuracy of calculated receiver position. In this framework, first of all, L1 signal transmitted by the satellites is generated and then these signals are transferred to the receiver by interfering with the noise. In receiver stage, after the coming signals are demodulated, navigation message which contains necessary information for the calculation of receiver position is obtained. Signal processing techniques used in the simulation are implemented by means of MATLAB (Matrix Laboratory) R2015b and finally an interface is designed by using MATLAB-GUI (Graphical User Interface) to display the analyses results and the calculated receiver position. By using designed interface, it is possible to display the calculated and the real receiver positions on the map and to analyse the signal waveforms related to different signal processing stages in receiver. Since the user interface developed is flexible, it can also be used for testing and analysing the performance of new signal processing technics on satellite-based navigation systems.
