GÜMELİ WOLDS: AN IMPORTANT TRANSHUMANCE FIELD IN THE RECREATIONAL CONVERSION PROCESS

Abstract
Bölüklü, Kartepe Bacaklı and Kızkulak are each by themselves important transhumance fields in Gümeli township of Alaplı municipality, which is situated within Zonguldak province in Western Blacksea region. Gümeli wolds; which formed through thining of the natural forrest floor in Akçakoca mountains, used to be a place for traditional transhumance via livestock breeding for long years. Howerver, as many of the wolds in Turkey, Gümeli wolds has shown a functional transformation course in the last fifty years. Nowadays, only Bölüklü wold is utilized for livestock breeding by 5-6 housedolds. Per contra, Gümeli wolds are entirely dedicated for recreational transhumance and lately increasing mountain tourism activities. Gümeli wolds; placed near some important industrial and populated areas; have already become points of attract each by itself owe to the fertile natural and cultural potential. Increasing number of visitors has brought some anthropogenic problems in its wake. In this study; current situation of the transhumance activities, problems about usage and planning proposals intended for Gümeli wolds have been observed and analyzed.
