HAMSTRING INJURIES - CURRENT LITERATURE REVIEW

Abstract

The paper presents the review of literature concerning hamstring injuries as a crucial problem from the point of view of recreational and professional sports. It presents epidemiological data of hamstring injuries against the background of whole muscle injuries in sports. Paper presents the mechanism of injuries - biomechanical factors. Authors presents risk factors such as unsufficient warm up and flexibility, differences in torque of flexors muscles. Authors also shown the problem of using hamstring autografts for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction as the reason of reduced hamstring muscte torque and flexibility. Basing on the literary review, the authors discuss biomechanical and clinical implications for such procedures. Paper presents methods of therapeutic treatment reliable to size of muscle lesion. There are many ways of treatment after hamstring injury. The total rupture mostly needs surgical treatment, while other hamstring lesions don't need this type of procedure. Basing on literary review author's shown how important thing is hamstring injury prevention. There are many prevention programs, most of them were prepared for football. Literature review and proffesional sports experience show that type of prevention may be effective in recreational sports.
