HERITABILITY OF AEROBIC POWER OF INDIVIDUALS IN NORTHEAST BRAZIL
Journal Title: Biology of Sport - Year 2014, Vol 31, Issue 4
Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic and environmental contribution to variation in aerobic power in monozygotic (MZ) and dizygotic (DZ) twins. The sample consisted of 20 MZ individuals (12 females and 8 males) and 16 DZ individuals (12 females and 4 males), aged from 8 to 26 years, residents in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The twins were assessed by a multistage fitness test. The rate of heritability found for aerobic power was 77%. Based on the results, the estimated heritability was largely responsible for the differences in aerobic power. This implies that such measures are under strong genetic influence.

High cycling cadence reduces carbohydrate oxidation at given low intensity metabolic rate
Cycling cadence (RPM)-related differences in blood lactate concentration (BLC) increase with increasing exercise intensity, whilst corresponding divergences in oxygen uptake (VO[sub]2[/sub]) and carbon dioxde production...
THEORETICAL AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON DURABILITY OF THE CALCANEAL TENDON AND THE PATHOMECHANISM OF ITS ATRAUMATIC, SUBCUTANEOUS BREAK
The pathology of the calcaneal tendon (Achilles) presents a serious medical and social problem. This tendon is the strongest plantar flexor of the foot that plays a fundamental role in the accomplishment of human gait. A...
Body balance parameters established with closed and open eyes in young and elderly men
The aim of the study was to check whether there are any differences in the level of body balance between younger and elderly men. Body balance was measurements by computer posturographic system in two variants, i.e. a) w...
Force – angle and force – time characteristics of human upper extremity muscles
The object of this dissertation was to identify force – angle and force – time characteristics. These relationships were analysed for entire upper extremity and its large joints, which let determine connections between a...
DIFFERENCES IN KINEMATIC PARAMETERS OF ATHLETES OF DIFFERENT RUNNING QUALITY
The aim of the study was to determine the differences among subjects of different sprinting quality in the variables of running dynamics in the 100 m sprint event and in the variables of kinematic indicators (stride freq...
